In addition to all of the usual summertime activities, I've been working on some new Spider-Man stories. I'm told the first one will go on sale in December...just in time for Christmas...so it should show up in the next Marvel solicitations. Like the rest of the comics-reading world, I consider your work on both Amazing Spider-Man and Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man to be some of the best Spider-Man stories ever. I can't wait to buy this new stuff. Can you share a bit more about what we can expect? Not that I'm asking you to give anything away - just a teaser. Also, do you know how many issues you will be doing at this point?

I'm an Amazing Spider-Man reader anyway -- the book has been great since the revamp a few months ago. The new creative teams have made this a fun superhero comic book again, after years of gloom 'n' doom. Your old running buddies John Romita Jr. and Klaus Janson have turned in some particularly good work on the current story arc. But I'm particularly excited about issue #580, since it marks your return to the book more than 20 years after leaving it. You and Gerry Conway are my two favorite Spider-Man writers ever, so I've been wanting to see this for a long time. Just curious - how does it feel coming back to Amazing Spider-Man after all these years?

It's a highly entertaining story and I particularly enjoyed the clever way in which Spidey dispatches of the villain. Oh, and Lee Weeks did a great job with the art. I wish modern comics had more single-issue stories like this one. It would make it much easier for new readers to get hooked on comics, I believe. Any first-time reader could pick up ASM #580 and quickly figure out what was going on, which is how it should be. And I was excited to read in the letters page that you and Mr. Weeks will be doing a three-issue Amazing Spider-Man story arc in 2009. I'm sure you will have more details, but that's great news!
